    Welcome to Academic Advising at Moraine Park Technical College!

    Rest assured you will be assigned an advisor who will help you from beginning to end.  As soon as you have been accepted into a program, an advisor is assigned to help you from your first semester through to graduation and everything in between. We understand you may have a busy life outside of college. Together, we can put together a plan.

    Advisor and Student Expectations

    • Schedule and keep advising appointments
    • Review your degree audit to see which courses you need to complete your degree
    • Search the class schedule to select courses you’d like to take
    • Be active in your myMPTC, Canvas, and MPTC email accounts
    • Be prompt, professional, and prepared for advising sessions
    • Provide open and honest communication – be an active participant
    • Research transfer college options
    • Accept responsibility for decisions made in the advising process (This means that if you skip a class or register for courses late, you must accept the outcomes of your decisions)

    Advisors will help you with:

    • Creating an academic plan based on your educational goals
    • Interpreting your degree audit
    • Tips on how to be a successful college student
    • Connecting to college resources
    • Transfer questions and resources

    Advisors will:

    • Be reasonably and predictably accessible to you via multiple channels of communication and will respond to your messages within two to three business days
    • Support the final decisions you make about your higher education even if those decisions are at odds with our professional opinion or judgement
    • Advocate for your best interests within the boundaries of federal, university, and departmental policies

    Academic advisors are here to support your journey through college by helping you connect with the resources you need to succeed. Whether you’re looking for tutoring, career guidance, mental health support, or help with financial aid, your advisor can point you in the right direction. By working with an advisor, you’ll gain a clearer understanding of what’s available on campus and how to make the most of your college experience.

    Not sure what kind of help or support you might need? That’s okay! Your academic advisor is a great first stop for any questions. They can help you explore your options and connect you with the right campus resources—even if you’re not sure where to start. Your academic advisor’s information can be found here!

    What’s New?

    • Registration for the upcoming Spring semester begins in November! Now is a great time to set up an appointment with your advisor to plan your next semester’s classes. You can view the Class Schedule to see what courses will be offered and when registration begins.
    • Do you plan on graduating this December? For information on how to apply for graduation and/or ceremony details, go to our Commencement website. Graduation applications are due by October 1st.
    • We’re getting close to the end of the first 8 weeks of the semester. Check your schedule to see if you have classes that start and/or end in October. Find instructions on how to print your schedule here.
    • Looking for assistance in your classes? Moraine Park has free tutoring support both on campus and online.
    • Check out the Academic Calendar to see what days you may not have class. For example, there are no classes on October 20, the college is closed November 26-27, etc.
    • Save the date! Our next Future Fair will be in Beaver Dam on October 5 from 11 am – 1 pm. This is a great event for all students looking for internships, job opportunities, transfer information, etc. More information will come at a later date.

    Who is my advisor?

    • After acceptance we will email you with your advisor contact information and your next steps.
    • The New Student Orientation will provide you with information to get started. We encourage you to prepare some questions after you review the orientation so that you and your advisor make the most of your time together.
