Advanced EMT Program Information

Important Information to Know

*Students must hold an EMT license in order to take the Advanced EMT program.  If you do not have a current license, please contact your advisor.*

Advanced EMT (AEMT) is a single course that runs for one semester.  Clinical requirements must be completed outside of regularly scheduled classroom hours.  Classroom instruction hours and clinical requirements prepare you to take the state exams to become a licensed AEMT.  There are two exams: written and practical/hands-on.  If you have test anxiety, please share this during your Program Advisor Meeting.

Advanced EMT is typically offered once per year and could be anywhere in our district.

This program is NOT eligible for Financial Aid.

Those who successfully complete the state exams will be hirable in many local communities.

Tools/Uniforms

A uniform is required in the class and at clinical sites. This includes EMT pants (black or navy), a black belt, black tactical boots, a name tag and an AEMT t-shirt.  The shirt will be purchased from a local vendor and the nametag will be purchased through MPTC’s bookstore. There are options to pick items up at the other campus locations.

In addition, you will need:

  • iPad/laptop/tablet
  • A watch with sweeping second hand
  • Safety goggles
  • A stethoscope (Recommended but not required.)

Technical Standards and Abilities

AEMT students must be able to complete certain activities. Below are some of the technical standards. If you are concerned with your ability to meet these or want a full list of the technical standards, it is important to talk with your advisor early.  More information will be shared during the field day, this includes acknowledgement that you are able to perform the activities.
