Electrical Power Distribution

Reach new heights in the diverse and exciting field of Electrical Power Distribution. Students in this one-year program get theoretical and hands-on training in all phases of power line construction and maintenance. Individuals must be comfortable working at varying heights during extreme weather conditions. Good eyesight, hearing and manual dexterity are required to be successful.
What You’ll Learn
Students gain knowledge about the workings of electrical power systems. Preparing to work as power linemen, students demonstrate the required physical skills needed with hands-on training in the field. Graduates of the program are prepared to use both hands to perform pole work and construct various electrical distribution systems. Students learn safety standards and how they apply to work activities and operating equipment associated with electrical distribution needs.

This program has a waitlist. To get on the waitlist for the program, you must have an accepted application, attend a field day, and meet with your advisor. Acceptance into the program for a certain year does not guarantee a spot in core classes for that year.
A field experience day is held in fall and/or spring to give applicants an opportunity to learn about careers, job opportunities and endurance expectations and to experience pole climbing. A clean driving record is required for employment in this field.
Students will need a fed med (Federal Medical) qualified physical as well as a fed med card prior to beginning the program, unless students already possess a CDL upon entering the program.
CPR/First Aid certification are required components of the program.

High school dual credit provides high school students the opportunity to earn college credit while in high school, without leaving their high school classroom. The courses are taught by certified high school instructors using technical college curriculum, grading policies and textbooks.

Financial Aid is provided to aid eligible associate degree and technical diploma programs with 28 credits or more. Processing can take 6-8 weeks after a student’s completed Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) is received.

In this program, you will be charged for 2 credits of tuition for the course College 101, 1 credit for Introduction to Electrical Substations, and 3 credits for Oral and Interpersonal Communication (unless you are taking Occupational Communication).
For financial aid purposes, College 101 will count as 1 credit, Introduction to Electrical Substations 0 credits, and Oral and Interpersonal Communication 1 credit. If you enroll in less than full time credits for the semester you select to take this in, it will impact the amount of aid you are eligible to receive. Please work with your advisor to create the course schedule that will best meet your needs.
