High School Career Academies (HSCA)

A meaningful opportunity for high school students to earn or be on a pathway to earning a credential prior to high school graduation.

MPTC offers dual enrollment options to help you earn credentials while you are still in high school. Here are some course options that may be of interest to you:

  • Dual Credit – course is offered at the high school by an approved high school teacher.
  • Start College Now – course is taken at MPTC, in-person or online, by MPTC faculty.
  • Credit for Prior Learning (CPL) – course is taken via other college level rigor assessment, such as Advanced Placement or another College/University. The college reviews those transcripts (or official test score documents) for CPL toward pathway completion.

At least 50% of a career pathway is offered through dual credit at the high school.

  • Programs will be considered for Career Academies when four or more courses are offered for dual credit at the high school.

High school agrees to promote Start College Now for the academy courses that are not offered through dual credit at the high school to encourage completion of credentials, and agrees to allow MPTC staff to hold an informational session for academic and career planning to share potential next steps; including, completing the application and graduation process for the pathway.

  • Students who attend an information session, connect with a recruiter and meet eligibility requirements are awarded an admissions fee waiver.

It is understood that Career Academies could change at any point in the school year due to changes in high school dual credit offerings.

*Proposed Academies that do not meet the criteria above may be reviewed on a case-by-case basis by the K12 Partnership Team at MPTC for consideration.

High School Career Academies can change at any point due to changes in high school dual credit offerings. Due to the varying degree of dual credit courses offered in our district high schools, career academies will vary greatly from district to district.
