Cosmetology Program Information

  • Important Information to Know

Students enter a “cohort” group when they start the Cosmetology classes. Students are required to be full-time. The program takes one year to complete – this includes a fall, spring and summer session. We follow a strict attendance policy that reflects expectations for success in the industry. The cohort offers consistency in class scheduling each semester. All Cosmetology classes are offered:
    • At the Fond du Lac Campus
    • Monday through Friday, 7:30 AM until 4:30-5:00 PM
    • Roughly 40 hours per week in the classrooms/salon
    • Additional time commitment: 10-20 hours of studying/homework per week.

Students provide services in Techniques Salon:
    • Cutting/Styling/Coloring/Nails/Hair and Scalp Care/Chemical Restructuring/Fundamentals of Facials
    • Students are required to recruit guests for practicing skills and completing assessments, this plays a large role in the future success in the industry.

Upon completion of the program, students complete the Wisconsin State Board Exam – Cosmetology Practitioner. Successful completion of the exams (written and practical), authorize students to practice in the State of Wisconsin. Exam fees are not included in program costs.

Convictions of crimes or pending charges may be grounds or denial of license if the circumstances of the conviction or charge are substantially related to professional practice (may need to submit documentation).

    Field Day

Cosmetology requires you to attend a field day before you can register for any core classes. This is a combined program orientation and registration session.

You’ll meet the Cosmetology faculty and your new peers!  We will tour the salon, visit your classroom space, share details about College resources & help you register for classes!

Watch your email for an official invite and plan to sign up.

For a fall start date, Field Day is held in April, and for January start, it is held in November.

Please know that you must attend this event.

    Tool/Uniforms

Students in the Cosmetology program need to purchase a supply kit prior to the start of the semester. The cost of books and supplies is approximately $2700.00. More information regarding the tool kit and uniform will be available during the Field Day.
