Middle School Students

Can Middle School Students attend Dual Enrollment Courses?

Middle school students can start preparing to earn dual credit during their 8th-grade year and plan courses with their high school counselor during the spring of their 9th-grade year.

During 8th Grade

  1. Meet with a high school counselor/attend Freshman orientation if available, to review course options for 9th grade and create a pathway using the Course Planner Worksheet.
  2. Research Career Pathways, Inspire Wisconsin Career Exploration, and course options.
  3. Enroll in exploratory courses related to your career interests.

Spring of 9th Grade

  1. Meet with your school counselor to determine available Moraine Park Technical College Career Academies.
  2. Determine the Dual Credit courses that can be taken at your high school during your sophomore year that relate to your career interest area.
  3. Meet with your high school counselor to review course options for 10th grade and create a pathway using the Course Planner Worksheet.

Course Planner Worksheet

List the courses you plan to take each year in high school. Remember to include the minimum number of credits required by your high school for each school year.

  • High School Course Planner/Handbook – This document helps you determine your 4-year course sequence based on your High School course
  • Dual Enrollment Opportunities – Start taking Dual Credit courses in 10th grade.
  • High School Career Academies – Set yourself up to earn a certificate, technical diploma, or degree by the time you graduate from high school.

Career Exploration

Talk to your teachers or school counselors to learn more about the coursework you can start taking in high school to support your career goals. Check out Inspire Wisconsin Network for information about Regional Career Pathways and compare them to available High School Career Academies.

Regional Career Pathways include Advanced Manufacturing, Agriculture Food and Natural Resources, Architecture and Construction, Business Administration, Education and Training, Energy, Healthcare, Hospitality Culinary and Tourism, Information Technology, and Transportation Distribution and Logistics.
