Automotive Program Information

Important Information to Know

There are three degree options in our Automotive Technology program area.

  • Automotive Maintenance Technician – 1 Year Technical Diploma (If you are enrolled in the Automotive Technology Associate Degree, you are automatically enrolled and will receive the technical diploma as you complete the required courses)
  • Automotive Technician – 2 Year Technical Diploma
  • Automotive Technology – 2 Year Associate’s Degree

If you have questions about how these differ from one another, we can discuss this more at your Program Advisor Meeting.

Students enter a “cohort” or group when they start the automotive classes and are required to be full-time. While the cohort and main courses start every fall, students may still begin in the spring semester with general education courses. All automotive classes are offered:

  • At the Fond du Lac Campus
  • During Monday Evenings and Tuesday-Thursday Days

To start automotive classes, students must meet minimum test score requirements. If your scores do not meet these requirements, we can still get you started on other courses. This will be part of our discussion when you attend the Program Advisor Meeting.

Field Day

In addition to the Program Advisor Meeting, you will need to attend a mandatory Field Day in early August.

During Field Day, you’ll meet the Automotive faculty and your new peers!  The faculty will outline program expectations.  In addition, we will tour the lab/shop, meet with local employers, share details about College resources and have you fitted for your uniform.

Watch your email for an official invite and plan to sign up.

Tools/Uniforms

Uniforms are required and cost $160.  This includes four shirt and pant sets.  Shoes are purchased separately.

Tools are provided to students in the shop. As a student in the program, you also have the opportunity to purchase your own Snap-On tools at a discounted rate.  These can be for your personal use and for your career after graduation.
