Arik Lange’s return to school was about more than earning a degree. It was a step toward a career field grounded in trust, fairness and a genuine commitment to people.
Lange began Moraine Park Technical College’s Human Resources (HR) program in spring 2025 and is on track to graduate in fall 2026. Balancing full-time semesters with summer courses, he embraced the challenge with a clear goal in mind: to become a human resources professional employees can rely on.
“I was inspired to go back to school and pursue a career in human resources by seeing the impact HR can have on employees,” Lange said. “HR professionals can do a lot of good by ensuring fair working practices and mitigating conflict. I want to be a reason why people appreciate and trust human resources in their workplace.”
Before enrolling at Moraine Park, Lange worked as a bartender and warehouse associate. He valued those experiences, but he knew he wanted a career that offered growth and purpose. Exploring schools felt intimidating at first, but Moraine Park’s online human resources program stood out.
“Within about a week of speaking with an advisor, I knew it was time to make the change,” Lange said.
As he transitioned careers, Lange quickly discovered the program offered more than he expected. While his previous roles helped him develop strong communication skills, the Human Resources program took that foundation further.
“The unique assignments and projects really test your skills and abilities before you’re set out into the workforce,” Lange said. “It’s been a great opportunity to build confidence.”
Moraine Park’s Human Resources associate degree is designed for people looking to strengthen their professional foundation or pursue a new career path. Students gain hands-on experience in recruiting, hiring, onboarding, coordinating benefits and supporting managers as they lead their teams.
“Each student’s story and plan is individualized and allows students to progress at a pace that fits their lives,” Moraine Park human resources instructor Marla Stilwill said. “Whether someone is looking to change careers or grow in their current role or begin college all together, the program equips students with the knowledge, confidence, and professional competencies employers are seeking. We truly meet students where they are, and help them get where they want to go.”
After graduation, Lange plans to enter the Human Resources field and continue building experience while serving as a dependable resource for his organization and colleagues.
“Human resources is at the heart of every organization, and that makes it a consistently in-demand career path,” Silwill said. “As workplaces evolve, HR professionals play a critical role in shaping culture, strengthening engagement and navigating complex issues such as talent shortages, compliance, benefits, employee wellness and more.”
