Evan Ramirez Invests in His Future Early

Headshot of Evan Ramirez

For Evan Ramirez, planning for the future started before he graduated from high school. By taking advantage of dual credit opportunities at Moraine Park Technical College, he earned two certificates, made significant progress toward an accounting degree and began exploring how he could turn his business ambitions into reality.

Before graduating from Fond du Lac High School in spring 2026, Ramirez had already completed two certificates at Moraine Park: Tax Preparer Assistant and Payroll Assistant. Now, he’s continuing his education in Moraine Park’s Accounting program with a clear vision for his future and an entrepreneurial mindset.

By taking several dual credit courses in high school, Ramirez has already earned nearly half of the credits required for his accounting degree. He’s now working toward completing the program while exploring an additional opportunity: Moraine Park’s Financial and Insurance Services Specialist program. For Ramirez, combining accounting knowledge with financial services expertise could open additional doors as he works toward his entrepreneurial goals.

Because many of his existing credits apply to both programs, Ramirez sees the potential to expand his education without starting from scratch. Completing both programs would help him build a broader foundation for his goals. If he stays on track, he believes he could complete both programs in as little as a year and a half.

“One of the most interesting aspects of accounting is how technology has transformed the profession,” Ramirez said. “Modern accounting relies heavily on computerized systems and automation rather than the traditional, manual bookkeeping methods many people imagine. Another common misconception is that you have to be really good at math to succeed in accounting, but there’s much more to the profession than that.”

After completing his education, Ramirez hopes to begin his career as an accounting specialist. He wants to gain hands-on experience and learn how successful businesses manage their finances before eventually pursuing his own business ventures.

His long-term ambitions extend beyond traditional accounting. He is considering possibilities such as owning a brokerage or developing an artificial intelligence-integrated accounting software company designed to reduce fraud and human error.

Ramirez credits his early start at Moraine Park with helping him move closer to his goals while saving time and money. He encourages other students to take advantage of opportunities to earn college credits in high school, choose classes that align with their future plans and ask questions when they need help.

“Think about what you want to do in the future and take classes that will help you get there,” Ramirez said. “Ask questions and take advantage of the support your instructors provide. The classes you take now can save you money, shorten your time in college and give you more opportunities down the road.”

With two certificates completed, a head start on his accounting degree and plans to explore additional credentials, Ramirez is already putting that advice into practice. He’s building a foundation for a career that could take him from accounting specialist to business owner, one opportunity at a time.
