Moraine Park Technical College student Lucas Kern of Slinger earned sixth place in the Industrial Motor Control Competition at the 2026 SkillsUSA Championships, held June 1-5 in Atlanta during the SkillsUSA National Conference.
Kern, an MPTC Electricity program student, qualified for the national competition after earning first place in the Wisconsin SkillsUSA Industrial Motor Controls competition in April.
The SkillsUSA Championships is the premier showcase of America’s most highly skilled career and technical education students and one of the largest hands-on workforce development events in the world. Each June, more than 6,800 state champions from across the nation compete in 115 skilled and leadership competitions.
The Industrial Motor Control Competition challenges students to demonstrate their knowledge of electrical principles, equipment, industry codes and standards related to the design and installation of motor control systems. Competitors apply that knowledge by installing motor control equipment, enclosures, raceways, pilot devices and circuitry according to accepted industry practices and National Electrical Code requirements.
Congratulations, Lucas!
