Elizabeth Diaz is already advancing her health care career before graduating from Moraine Park Technical College’s Health Information Technology (HIT) program.
Diaz recently accepted a position as a Revenue Integrity Charge Coordinator with Advocate Aurora, where she helps ensure patient visits and services are accurately documented and billed through health care workflows and reporting systems.
“At the time I chose the HIT program, I was working on the Advocate LiveWell portal team and realized the program would benefit me in that role,” Diaz said.
Having worked in health care for several years in both hands-on and remote positions, Diaz said she has always enjoyed helping patients while supporting health care organizations in meaningful ways.
“I’ve always loved the reward of taking care of patients both in person and remotely,” Diaz said. “It’s always been rewarding to provide the best care possible for patients.”
In her new role, Diaz works with reports and workflows to ensure patient visits are properly captured and associated with the correct charges.
Diaz said the support she received from HIT instructors Stephanie Scott and Gloria Madison helped her succeed throughout the program.
“I think the HIT program was a little harder than I originally expected, but I appreciated the support I received from the instructors throughout the degree,” Diaz said. “They were always available as resources and to answer any questions I had.”
Being hired before graduation gave Diaz confidence as she begins her career journey in health information technology.
“Professionally, being hired before graduation means my employer was willing to take a chance on a fresh student out of school, and it felt good to know they were willing to do so,” Diaz said. “Having this job before graduating makes me feel like I’m ahead of the game as I begin my career journey with this degree.”
Congratulations, Elizabeth!
