In 1983, Paul Smedberg received a $100 Dart & Kraft Foundation Scholarship while studying in Moraine Park’s Wastewater Treatment program. At the time, he was balancing full-time classes with two jobs and the scholarship made a real difference.
“I was able to pay for a good share of my books with the support,” Smedberg said. “It allowed me to dedicate more time to my education and helped me achieve my goal of graduating debt-free.”
Smedberg remembers Moraine Park’s dedicated instructors and even the campus culinary students who kept everyone well-fed. After graduation, he began his career at the Fond du Lac Wastewater Treatment Plant before moving into the city’s Construction and Maintenance Division and then the engineering department.
Always eager for a new challenge, Smedberg joined C.D. Smith Construction—one of Wisconsin’s leading builders of wastewater treatment plants—where he has spent nearly three decades. Today, he serves as Vice President, having managed close to two dozen water and wastewater projects across the state.
“Technical colleges open so many doors,” Smedberg said. “With a hands-on education like Moraine Park’s, there’s no limit to how far you can go.”
