Moraine Park’s Electricity Program
Every building, business and community depends on electricity. Behind every powered home, manufacturing facility and commercial space are skilled professionals who keep systems running safely and efficiently. Moraine Park Technical College’s Electricity program prepares students to step into that essential role through hands-on training that mirrors the jobsite.
From the moment students enter the lab, the work is real. Panels are wired. Conduit is bent. Circuits are tested. Students gain experience using the same tools, equipment and techniques they’ll encounter in the field.
The one-year, 34-credit technical diploma, offered at the Fond du Lac and West Bend Campuses, provides a strong foundation in general electrical concepts while building practical skills in residential, commercial and industrial electricity. Students aren’t just learning theory, they are applying it.
Throughout the program, students analyze electrical circuits, interpret blueprints and use trade-specific math to solve problems they will encounter in the field. They study electrical code, explore renewable energy principles and gain experience installing electrical equipment in a variety of settings. Safety is woven into every course, ensuring graduates understand and follow safety practices from day one.
By the time they complete the program, students are prepared to step directly into the workforce as apprentice electricians—ready to contribute on job sites in the community and continue building toward full licensure.
For Electricity instructor and program alum Anthony Fiore, the hands-on focus is personal. He began his journey at Moraine Park in 2018, completing his general education courses before finishing the Electricity curriculum in spring 2020. In 2026, he returned to the classroom as an instructor.
“I have been teaching in many ways most of my teenage and adult life,” Fiore said. “When given the opportunity to do so as a job, it was the obvious choice.”
Fiore’s approach to teaching shifts depending on the material and the students in front of him. Some lessons call for detailed walkthroughs of electrical theory. Others demand tools in hand and active troubleshooting. That flexibility ensures students not only understand the concepts but can apply them with confidence.
The result is a program rooted in real-world experience. Students graduate ready to wire homes, support manufacturing facilities, power commercial spaces and contribute to Wisconsin’s growing demand for skilled trades professionals.
For those looking to enter a career where problem-solving meets purpose—and where every completed project quite literally powers a community—the Electricity program offers a clear path forward.
