David Baldus, a Moraine Park Foundation Board member, has built a distinguished career and life rooted in the values of hard work, education and community service.

Raised on the east side of Milwaukee, Baldus attended Catholic schools from elementary through college. During his summers, he worked driving trucks for his father’s plumbing company—Joseph Wittig Co. This introduction to the plumbing industry laid the groundwork for his future career.

After leaving college, Baldus entered a plumbing apprenticeship program and worked for his father’s firm. He earned his journeyman’s card after a rigorous five-year apprenticeship and then continued his education, achieving his master plumber’s license and a state licensing for plumbing design.

Baldus eventually transitioned to leading the daily business operations at Joseph Wittig Co. He worked closely with his brother, and in 1990, the decided to sell the company. He concluded his career as a manufacturer’s representative in the plumbing and heating industries, a role he held with distinction until his retirement.

For more than 45 years, Baldus has called West Bend home. He has been married to Eileen for more than 30 years, and together, they are actively involved in the community. They are members of the Foundation’s President’s Circle and participate regularly in the West Bend Sunrise Rotary Club. Baldus joined the Moraine Park Foundation Board in 2019.

“Joining the foundation board was an easy call,” Baldus said. “Supporting the Foundation is important to aid those who might not have the resources to attend school. A helping hand gives a student a chance at a better life.”

His connection to Moraine Park began in the early 1970s when he attended apprenticeship training on the West Bend Campus with his family’s business, solidifying his commitment to technical education.

“A technical college has historically provided training for hands-on work, and that is always a good place to start a career,” Baldus said. “Now, they provide so much more, offering a bridge to four-year universities and the ability to go back and retrain or expand one’s skills to enhance job opportunities.”
