Moraine Park students have an opportunity to fast-track their future in tech through an information technology (IT) dual degree pathway that combines the IT – Web Development and Design Specialist program and the IT – Mobile Applications Developer program.

The dual degree pathway allows students to earn two Associate of Applied Science IT degrees in just five terms. Graduates leave the program with a broad skill set and the ability to design and develop across both web and mobile platforms.

“The dual degree helps students master a wider set of skills, which is critical in a field that is constantly changing,” Tammy Freund, IT web designer/developer instructor at Moraine Park, said. “Employers are often looking for candidates with broad skill sets, and this pathway shows both adaptability and a strong work ethic.”

By completing both programs, students build experience designing for different devices while strengthening their technical foundation. Coursework connects front-end design with back-end development, helping students understand how full digital experiences come together.

“A web and mobile dual degree pathway gives students the ability to understand and bridge the differences between desktop and mobile user experiences,” Dominic Garofalo, IT web developer and mobile app instructor at Moraine Park, said. “It strengthens their ability to create cross-platform applications while developing strong UI and UX skills.”

Graduates of the dual degree pathway are prepared for careers such as web designer/developer, mobile app developer, full-stack developer, UI/UX developer, DevOps engineer or freelance developer.

The pathway is a strong fit for students who enjoy problem-solving, creativity and continuous learning. As technology evolves, students also explore how tools like artificial intelligence are shaping the industry while focusing on building strong foundational skills.

“If you’re interested in coding and designing digital experiences that work across platforms and devices, including how to incorporate AI into the overall coding, design and development process, this pathway is worth considering,” Freund said. “Start by building a strong foundation, then be ready to take on more complex challenges as your skills grow.”

For students looking to stand out in a competitive field, Moraine Park’s dual degree IT pathway offers a streamlined way to gain two credentials and build a versatile future.
