Moraine Park Technical College celebrated the groundbreaking of the new Health and Human Services wing on the Fond du Lac Campus on Nov. 3. This marks the start of the College’s fourth and final project funded by the 2022 referendum.
The 44,926-square-foot project, including an 8,908-square-foot addition, will modernize classrooms, labs and simulation spaces to reflect real-world settings found in hospitals, long-term care facilities, clinics and emergency service areas. An additional 7,048-square-foot renovation, separate from the referendum budget, will house general science education and cosmetology classrooms.
The project will be completed in two phases. Phase one of the construction, which is currently underway, will add the simulation spaces and update existing areas for radiography, medical lab technician, surgical technology and respiratory therapy programs. Phase two, which will begin in 2026, will remodel the remaining E-wing.
“This new learning environment will transform how students learn and practice—leading to higher certification and license pass rates, improved clinical and field readiness, stronger job placement outcomes and stronger employer satisfaction,” Moraine Park President Bonnie Baerwald said. “Hundreds of our students—adult learners, high school learners and incumbent workers—will begin or enhance their health and human service industry careers in this space starting next fall.”
The new facility will serve more than 500 students annually across 10 programs, including Criminal Justice, Early Childhood Education, Emergency Medical Services, Medical Assistant, Medical Lab Technician, Nursing, Radiography, Respiratory Therapy, Substance Use Disorder Counseling and Surgical Technology.
“Since enrolling at Moraine Park, I’ve found an unshakable community and an environment that’s allowed me to blossom,” said Jacob Schreiber, a second-year Surgical Technology program student and president of the Fond du Lac Campus Student Senate. “Today, I have a 4.0 GPA, and I’m proud to be part of this exciting moment in Moraine Park’s history. Our current program spaces have served us well, but they’re ready for a new chapter. This new facility will give future students the tools and technology they deserve to learn, practice and thrive.”
The Moraine Park Foundation has launched a $750,000 fundraising campaign to help equip the new Health and Human Services wing with modern technology and training tools. These investments will ensure students train in realistic, industry-standard environments and graduate workforce-ready. Naming opportunities are available for community partners who wish to invest in the future of health and human services education across the region.
Construction on the Health and Human Services wing is expected to be completed in time for the fall 2026 semester, marking a new era for Moraine Park students and the district’s workforce.
