Moraine Park Apprenticeship Students Place at ABC Skills Competition

Moraine Park Technical College is celebrating four apprenticeship students who recently competed and placed in the Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC) Apprenticeship Skill Competition in West Bend on Dec. 5.

In total, 45 apprentices from six Wisconsin technical colleges competed in four trades: carpentry, electrical, HVAC and plumbing. The day-long event featured a rigorous schedule, including a four-hour, hands-on practical challenge in the morning, followed by a written exam in the afternoon.

Moraine Park carpentry apprentices swept the podium, with Owen Spitz, AMCS, Inc., placing first, Connor Spaeth, Northcentral Construction Corporation, placing second and Dakota Olalde, Holtz Builders, Inc., placing third.

Moraine Park electrical apprentice, Charles Glewen of NEXT Electric, LLC, placed second in the ABC Electrical Skill competition.

Apprentices who earn first place in their skill competition advance to compete nationally. The ABC National Craft Championships will take place in Salt Lake City, UT, in March, and Spitz will have the opportunity to represent Wisconsin, competing against other apprentices from across the country.
