Moraine Park Technical College’s Beaver Dam Campus welcomed 26 high school students from 11 local schools to take part in a Health Sciences Career Experience, giving them a hands-on look at in-demand careers in health care.
During the experience, held Feb. 3, students rotated through three interactive classrooms led by Moraine Park instructors. Each session introduced real-world skills used in Medical Assistant, Diagnostic Medical Sonography and Nursing programs. From practicing foundational techniques to learning how health care professionals support patients every day, students were immersed in what a future in health sciences could look like.
The hands-on format allowed students to ask questions, try new skills and hear directly from faculty about their own career journeys. For many, the experience helped make health care pathways feel more tangible and achievable while they are still in high school.
Events like this are made possible by collaboration across the College. A special thank you goes to the faculty who shared their expertise and passion for healthcare, as well as the Moraine Park staff who supported the event as room guides, hallway monitors, registration helpers, presenters and behind-the-scenes coordinators who ordered supplies and ensured a meaningful experience for every student.
By opening classrooms and showcasing hands-on learning, Moraine Park continues to help students explore career options, build confidence and envision what’s possible.
Thanks to the participating schools and to SSM Health and their director of surgical and procedural services, Jen Schmitz, who shared her career journey with the participants.
