Moraine Park is unveiling an exciting new program this fall to help individuals interested in working in education with a local, more affordable pathway to a career in the classroom.
Starting in Fall 2026, the Foundations of Teacher Education, a 2-year Associate of Applied Science Degree, will help students develop the knowledge and skills needed to support classroom instruction and foster student success under the guidance of a licensed teacher. Through hands-on learning and practical experiences, students will learn strategies for assisting with core subjects such as math, science, reading, and writing. The program emphasizes individualized and small-group support, including tutoring, monitoring student activities, and facilitating engagement. Graduates will understand child development principles, effective communication, and instructional practices, preparing them to work primarily in elementary and middle school settings. This comprehensive foundation equips students to become valued members of educational teams, promoting academic growth and inclusion for all learners.
The Foundations of Teacher Education degree program is offered online and is a great pathway for those interested in working as a paraprofessional in a K-12 setting. With Moraine Park’s robust bachelor’s degree transfer opportunities, becoming a licensed educator for kindergarten through ninth grade can start locally and for a fraction of the cost. The program also offers dual credit opportunities, allowing high school students interested in pursuing a degree in education to take courses that count toward their Foundations of Teacher Education degree.
We know that helping fuel the pipeline of skilled educators is vital to our communities, and the Foundations of Teacher Education degree is one more way Moraine Park is helping meet workforce needs.
Applications are open for fall 2026. Students interested in beginning their career in education this fall are encouraged to apply by July 15.
