Moraine Park Technical College’s Medical Assistant program is helping students take their first steps into the health care field with confidence, flexibility and hands-on learning. As one of the fastest-growing health care careers in the U.S., medical assistants play a vital role as one of the first points of contact for patients in clinics and medical offices.
For students like Brittany Wenzlaff of Kewaskum and Hannah Silloway of Ripon, the program has offered the perfect opportunity to grow their skills while balancing life outside of school.
Wenzlaff began the program in January 2025 and will graduate in December. After earning her CNA, she wanted to explore new opportunities in health care but wasn’t sure if nursing was the right path.
“I chose this program as an entrance into the medical field,” she said. “I have my CNA but wasn’t sure if I wanted to continue to nursing, and felt the Medical Assistant program was a perfect opportunity to do more in the medical field.”
For Silloway, who started in August 2024, the program came at the perfect time.
“I hadn’t considered becoming a medical assistant before, but with all the stress from nursing school and having a newborn at home, I needed something quicker to get me started,” she said. “I decided to ‘test it out,’ but I ended up absolutely loving every class. It has helped me find my motivation and passion again.”

Both students said the program’s structure and supportive instructors make it easy to succeed.
“What I like most about the program is how hands-on it is and how supportive the instructors are,” Silloway said. “Every class feels meaningful and connected to real-world situations, which makes learning exciting and rewarding.”
After graduation, Wenzlaff hopes to work in dermatology, while Silloway plans to begin her career at SSM Health in Ripon and continue her education in the future.
“I would definitely recommend this program to anyone who feels unsure about what path to take in health care,” Silloway said. “The Medical Assistant program gives you valuable patient interaction, hands-on experience and a chance to make a real difference without the overwhelming stress that can come with nursing school.”
With Moraine Park’s hands-on approach to technical education, Medical Assistant students like Wenzlaff and Silloway are gaining the skills and confidence to build bright futures in health care.
