When Adam Hoogervorst enrolled in Moraine Park Technical College’s Graphic Design program, he was eager to take his creativity to the next level and turn his passion for art and design into a career. Within his first year, he gained real-world experience through multiple internships.
One of the first classes Hoogervorst took at Moraine Park was Computer Literacy, where he learned essential tools like Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint, along with professional development skills that helped him build his resume and LinkedIn profile. That preparation soon paid off.
After setting up his profile, Hoogervorst began qualifying for “Easy Apply” internship opportunities in his field. One application led him to Elkay Interior Systems in Milwaukee, a global leader in commercial design and manufacturing services.
Just 30 minutes after applying, Elkay reached out. Following several interviews, Hoogervorst was offered an internship—an incredible opportunity for a student fresh out of high school.
“At my internship, I assisted the marketing team with designing graphics, creating presentations and more,” Hoogervorst said. “In one of my projects, I designed a presentation for Elkay, overviewing their partnership with Starbucks. It has been incredible to work for a company like Elkay, especially since last year I was going to homecoming.”
After finishing his internship with Elkay in late 2023, Hoogervorst accepted a second internship with Secura Insurance in Neenah, where he expanded his skills by assisting the marketing team with photography and videography projects.
Hoogervorst hopes to use his associate degree in Graphic Design from Moraine Park to one day open his own business. With two internships already on his resume, he is well on his way to achieving that dream.
