Moraine Park Nursing Program Receives Generous Donation

WB 100

The Moraine Park Technical College Foundation was a recent recipient of the 100 Women West Bend quarterly donation. The $12,800 gift will help support nursing students at the College’s West Bend Campus.

The 100 Women West Bend group was founded in 2019 by four residents: Teri Otis, Jillian Clark, Wendy Heather and Ruth Henkel. Today, the group has grown to over 140 members. Their mission is to help the community by having 100+ women contribute $100 four times a year. Together, they select one charity each quarter to receive their collective donations.

In late 2023, Moraine Park was named a potential recipient of the 100 Women West Bend donation, and nursing assistant instructor Pam Jacob, director of college advancement Dana Bourland, and nursing student Isabella presented to the group.

“I have been a Nursing Assistant Instructor at Moraine Park for over 20 years and am seeing urgent trends in health care that need to be addressed,” Jacob said.  “I have taken students to clinical at Cedar Community and Samaritan over the years, and both facilities have had to make dramatic changes due to staffing shortages. One way to address this urgent need is to reduce financial barriers for students.”

Scholarships are highly effective in keeping students on track to graduation and increasing their academic performance. Over the past five years, approximately 1,500 students have received scholarships to help make their education affordable and reduce student loan debt.

“With the funds from 100 Women, the Moraine Park Foundation would be able to provide 15 scholarships for nursing and nursing assistant students living in Washington County as well as help 50 students afford skills testing required to receive their licensure,” Bourland said. “This will help to meet the shortage of qualified health care professionals needed in home and long-term care facilities.”

A sincere thank you to the 100 Women West Bend group for believing in and support Moraine Park students today and for years to come.
