Moraine Park Presents Froedtert with Community Partner Award

Moraine Park Technical College (MPTC) presented Froedtert Memorial Hospital in Menomonee Falls with its 2023 Community Partner Award. The award recognizes a community partner organization that has gone above and beyond in the role of working with Moraine Park students in community impact opportunities.

With the help of Kelly Lorenz, Froedtert Outreach volunteer coordinator, Moraine Park Medical Assistant students were placed at the Froedtert Outreach Clinic in Menomonee Falls to complete their service learning hours.

“This is a win-win partnership allowing students to acquire crucial skills while serving the hospital and its patients,” Lorenz said. “Being able to hear what the students took from the program was invigorating, and it is such a great way to be reminded of all the great work that happens here while at the same time allowing students the opportunity to gain valuable experience.”

The Community Outreach Health Clinic serves uninsured and underinsured residents of Froedtert Menomonee Falls Hospital’s service area. The clinic provides quality medical care with dignity and confidentiality, using the services of volunteer professional staff under the oversight of a physician medical director and nurse practitioner.

“The volunteer opportunity was a life-changing experience for me,” Sudipta Hui, MPTC Medical Assistant student, said. “I was the first to make an encounter with patients and started by greeting and rooming them, taking their vitals and charting their medical history. At first, I was a bit nervous, but I got more and more confident after encountering the same patients almost every week. I was proud to be a part of the outreach clinic team, and it has motivated me so much that I plan to volunteer after my coursework completion.”
