Moraine Park Technical College’s Early Childhood Education (ECE) program received an additional $20,000 donation from the West Bend Community Foundation to support students in the West Bend area pursuing careers in early childhood education.
Last summer, the West Bend Community Foundation spearheaded an initiative to help with the childcare shortages in Washington County. Their initial $20,000 donation to Moraine Park offered eligible students a $750 scholarship–covering the cost of one class and textbook for the fall 2024 semester. With their latest gift, their impact will double, offering $1,500 per student to cover the cost of two classes and textbooks.
“We are beyond grateful for the support from the West Bend Community Foundation and their help in reducing barriers to education,” Dr. Chris Schatz, dean of health and human services at Moraine Park, said. “We’ve seen an increase in students because of the offered scholarships, including a few who were surprised to learn they qualified. This support is truly making a difference in our community.”
Moraine Park’s ECE associate degree program prepares students for their journey as educators, setting the stage for graduates to work as teachers and caregivers. Students in the West Bend area, or those working for a West Bend childcare facility, who are interested in training to become an ECE professional can simply apply to Moraine Park to benefit from this unique scholarship opportunity.
