Culinary Students Feed Fond du Lac County Workers

Moraine Park Technical College Culinary students delivered 150 handmade boxed lunches to social workers in Fond du Lac County Tuesday, April 4.

Each year, Moraine Park Clubs are encouraged to complete a community service project. This Culinary Club outreach event was sparked by LuAnne Salmon, a Culinary student at Moraine Park and Culinary Club member.

“When the MPTC Culinary Club decided to do a community service project, I suggested we do something for the social workers of Fond Du Lac County,” Salmon said. “Their jobs involve long hours advocating for families and individuals, many times in stressful situations. Their ongoing service to the community goes largely unacknowledged. By providing a fresh, delicious lunch for everyone at the social services offices, we were able to use our passion for cooking to let them know that their work is appreciated.”

After researching social workers in Fond du Lac County, the students made a plan for making and boxing 150 lunches. The Entrée 2 class created the menu (below), students in the Artisan Breads class baked the bread, and 2nd-year students assembled and packed the lunch boxes.

The meals included:

  • Turkey breast, arugula, kamale (plum) sauce, and montrachet cheese on honey oatmeal bread with a lemon ricotta pasta
  • Roast beef, bacon jam, sharp cheddar spread, and arugula on ciabatta roll with spicy watermelon and pineapple salad.
  • Portobello mushroom shawarma Pita with a mediterranean salad.
