General Education Requirements

General Education Requirements

General Education provides a core of knowledge that supports common skills, intellectual concepts and professional attitudes. These are transferable skills, knowledge and attitudes essential to an individual’s success regardless of occupation or community setting.  These attributes include the seven Core Abilities, which are integrated into all Moraine Park courses.

Students pursuing an associate degree need to complete a total of 18-30 general education credits:

  • 6 credits of communications
  • 3 credits of math and/or science
  • 3 credits of social science
  • 3 credits of behavioral science
  • 3 to 15 credits of additional general education

Requirements for students pursuing a technical diploma vary from program to program.

Depending on the program, a combination of the above content areas will apply to the degree.  See General Education Courses for more information. Please consult with an academic advisor to ensure enrollment in the appropriate program-related general education courses. Students planning to transfer credits to another college should be sure to contact the receiving college to ask if specific MPTC courses will transfer.

For further information regarding general education courses, please contact Kim Harrington, Administrative Assistant in General Education at 920-924-3195 or Lane Holte, Associate Dean of General Education at 920-924-3307.

Note: General Education is not a stand-alone, financial aid eligible program of study at MPTC.

Institutional Requirements

In addition to General Education course requirements, Moraine Park requires all program students to take 2-credit College 101 course during their first semester.
