Moraine Park Technical College has provided career services to students, alumni and the community for decades, but a new Career Employment Center will now put these services literally front and center at the College’s Fond du Lac campus. Moraine Park will be unveiling this new facility at a special community Open House on April 8.

This event will also give guests an opportunity to tour the campus, take part in unique demonstrations, win prizes and enjoy a variety of family friendly activities.

“It’s been a privilege for our College to have been part of the Fond du Lac community for more than a century, and an event like this is a special time for us to reflect, give back and celebrate the partnerships and impact we’ve made together,” said Bonnie Baerwald, Moraine Park president, adding “We’re greatly looking forward to our Open House and the unveiling of our new Career Employment Center and hope the community will join us on this fun-filled day.”

A ribbon-cutting ceremony for the new Career Employment Center (CEC) addition will kick things off at 10 a.m.

During the Open House, members of the public can participate in short hands-on activities in the CEC to learn about the career exploration and job search resources available.

“The new Career Employment Center is a major addition for our College, providing an accessible, inviting spot for community members, young and old, to receive free help in planning their career paths and searching for employment opportunities,” said Careers Instructor Rhonda Roehrig.

Elsewhere throughout the campus, which boasts more than 300,000 square feet of space, members of the public can tour classrooms, take part in program demonstrations and win prizes.

These activities are free and open to the public as well and will take place from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m.

A few of the day’s demonstrations will include examining specimens under microscopes like a medical lab technician, exploring virtual reality and other technology students use, a welding process exercise, a criminal justice “catch a criminal” simulation, chemistry experiments, analyzing X-rays and climbing into a mobile EMS lab, and learning how to putt in golf through the use of math solutions.

Guests can also enjoy ice cream and learn how HVAC technicians keep ice cream makers working, as well as sample hors d’oeuvres and take part in pastry demonstrations with culinary faculty.

The more areas of Moraine Park’s campus open house guests explore, the greater the chance they have of winning prizes. The College is offering gift certificates from its automotive, culinary and cosmetology service areas, as well as an Amazon Echo Dot, a Garmin Vivofit and a grand prize iPad Air as part of the day’s giveaways.

Moraine Park’s open house will also be a special chance for families to have some fun around campus as well. A popcorn maker and cake will be available, as well as face painting, balloon art, washable tattoos and more as part of the fun.

Moraine Park’s campus is located at 235 North National Avenue. The campus houses facilities for culinary arts, automotive technology, integrated manufacturing, welding/metal fabrication, IT and business, cosmetology, surgical technician, clinical lab technician, respiratory, nursing and health laboratories and more.
