They will identify their personal roadblocks to being active bystanders when witnessing microaggressions. Additionally\, they will learn key concepts\, history\, and research related to why we don’t act. Participants will also analyze campus and department culture and practices evaluating preparedness to meet The Bystander Imperative. Lastly\,participants will take the foundations of their knowledge from thought to action. Together\, we will learn and practice techniques to intervene in microaggressive situations and develop a personal response phrase. The session will conclude with participants building communities of accountability for continued learning and future practice intervening.

DESCRIPTION:The 21 Week Equity Challenge is an opportunity to develop a deeper understanding of how inequity and racism affect our lives and communities.\n\nParticipants will receive an email at the beginning of each week from Monday\, February 1st through Monday\, June 21st.\nWeekly topics take participants through a journey that starts with understanding internalized racism and explores how racism permeates person-to-person interactions\, institutions and social structures.\nThe experience is intended to deepen understanding\, suggest ways to take action\, and help launch what we hope will be a lifelong commitment to improving equity and inclusion in our communities.\n\nIndividuals are encouraged to take on the challenge themselves\, or form groups for discussion and reflection. \nFor more information or to sign up for the challenge click the link below:\nhttps://www.unitedwaywi.org/page/equity-challenge \n
