DESCRIPTION:MPTC’s Diversity Relations team presents the Tunnel of Oppression\, an interactive\, multi-sensory exhibit experience highlighting modern-day oppression. Participants will take a self-guided tour through a series of scenes exploring some of society’s most complex and difficult issues such as racism\, homelessness\, ableism\, violence\, and more. The displays will provide insight into the realities of oppression\, power\, and privilege; invite empathy for individuals in a wide variety of life situations; and challenge visitors to reflect on their own biases and think more deeply about issues of oppression. \nThe Tunnel experience will be located in the FDL Campus Conference Center rooms A & B. Visitors will have the opportunity to reflect and process the experience at the end of the tour in Conference Room C or in nearby rooms O-112 and O-113. \nThe event is open to all\, including staff\, students\, and the general public. SUMMARY:22 No More: Veteran Suicide Awareness Walk
DESCRIPTION:Saturday\, April 20\, 2024\, Moraine Park Technical College and Marian University will host a 2.2 mile Ruck March/Walk and free lunch to raise awareness of the alarming veteran suicide rate and to honor those who have lost their lives too soon. \nThe walk will begin at 10:00 a.m. in the B-1 parking lot. On-site registration will begin at 8:45 a.m. Pre-registration is helpful\, but tickets are not required. Local mental health providers and veteran support organizations will have information available. A free lunch will follow the walk. A backpack is not required to participate. Individuals are encouraged to carry a photo of a service member who died due to suicide. The event is pet-friendly\, and we ask you to kindly clean up after your pet. \nThis event is free and open to the public\, although donations are appreciated. Proceeds help fund this and future events and assist local veterans organizations so they may continue their mission of serving veterans and raising awareness of veteran suicide. \nVisit the Eventbrite page for more info and contact Steve Pepper\, Student Veterans Specialist\, with any questions.

Talking circles is a practice originating from indigenous cultures where you sit in a circle\, one person speaks at a time holding a “talking piece” and this allows for more listening and a braver\, safer space to engage in civil dialogue. Each group will have a facilitator and time will be kept with the option to “pass” if you do not have anything to say. The goal is to respectfully learn by listening and to learn how to engage respectfully.
