This is the text of a consensus statement that was put together regarding "recommendations for measures to be taken by medical and public health professionals following the use of smallpox as a biological weapon against a civilian population". The statement originally appeared in the Journal of the American Medical Association in June of 1999 and includes information on epidemiology, pathogenesis and clinical presentation, and infection control to name just a few.
