    The West Law Database Directory, 2002 edition is the print version of on-line directory. It groups databases and services into the categories of jurisdictional materials which includes Federal databases, individual state databases, and International and Non-US materials, listing of legal periodicals, Westlaw Legal Reference materials Databases.

  5. Martindale-Hubbell International Law Directory, K68.M37: This directory provides most comprehensive coverage of International lawyers and law firms (140,000 lawyers and 12,000 law firms in over 160 countries).
  6. Wisconsin Lawyer 2003; official publication of the State Bar of Wisconsin. Includes Attorney roster, Wisconsin Law Firms, Attorney biographies, Wisconsin corporations, in state and out of state attorney geographical roster, Federal and State courts, professional services etc.

    This directory contains the names, addresses and telephone numbers of federal and state officials, schools of Law, members of the state legislature, national and state associations, county map and city and county list.


Law Digests:


Law digest is an excellent place to begin legal research. It provides up-to-date and user friendly summaries of vast body of statutory law, firms and legal scholars in each jurisdiction.

  1. Martindale-Hubbell Law Digest, K 526.5 .M37 This compendium provides summaries of the laws of the United States, Canada, and 78th of the world’s leading trading nations, as well as the full text of significant Uniform and Model Acts and International Conventions.
  2. Callaghan’s Wisconsin Digest, KFW2457.M3
    This digest provides a complete guide to Wisconsin law, and with references to the major sources necessary for your research to aid you in serving clients.


Wisconsin Reports:

  1. Callaghan’s Official Wisconsin Reports, KFW 2445.C3
    This covers reports to the cases determined in the Supreme Court and Court of Appeals of Wisconsin. The Topic and Section number (refers to the Callaghan’s Wisconsin Digest) which provides the researcher with immediate access to all related Wisconsin decisions.


Wisconsin Statutes & Codes (print)

  1. West’s Wisconsin Statutes Annotated, under the arrangement of the Official Wisconsin Statutes, KFW2430.A4W4
    These volumes directly supplement 2001 Pocket laws for use in a particular calendar year. Provides annotations for sections from each chapter of Wisconsin Statutes.
  2. Wisconsin Administrative Code, 18 Volumes, JS451.W64.2
    The Wisconsin Administrative Code is published and distributed as directed by Section 35.93 and Chapter 227 of the Wisconsin Statutes. The complete code consists of loose-leaf binders containing all "Administrative Rules" of state agencies. As rules are created or revised (near the end of the month), newly printed pages are prepared. A separate set containing rules of the Safety & Buildings Division in the Department of Commerce and selected rules of the Department of Workforce Development is also available.
  3. Wisconsin Statutes and Annotations, 46th ed., 2001-02, KFW2430.A2
    Wisconsin Statutes and Annotations consist of the statues of 1898 with the additions and amendments and less the repeals made by the legislative thereafter (see s 991.12) and annotations updated under s. 35.23. According to Legislative Joint Rule 53 (1), when an act, or part of an act, creates a statute section number, that action indicates to make the section a part of the Wisconsin Statutes.

Criminal Procedure:

    The wide variety of legal sources that come together to determine the procedures of lawyers and legal paraprofessionals in the criminal justice system have been synthesized into this concise but also comprehensive book.  Whether a precedent was set by the Supreme Court, at the municipal level, or anywhere else, it has been integrated into this book.  Includes a fourteen-page Table of Cases.

Contacting the Congress: Online Directory for the 109th Congress
Contacting the Congress is a very up-to-date database of congressional contact information for the 109th Congress. As of October 03, 2005 there are 538 email addresses (of which 475 are Web-based email homepages), and 540 WWW homepages known for the 540 members of the 109th Congress. More traditional ground mail addresses are available for all Congress members.

Wisconsin Court System

The Wisconsin court system is made up of three levels of courts, each with a different function:

  • Supreme Court, developing appellate court, decides cases that have statewide significance and involve issues that require interpretation of the law. The webs site for it is: http://www.courts.state.wi.us
  • Court of Appeals hears appeals of cases that have already been decided by a circuit court. The web site: http://www.wicourts.gov/about/organization/appeals/

Federal Court System

  • U.S. Supreme Court This is the highest court in the United States. Official page of the United States Supreme Court, featuring links to court's opinions and orders, calendar, docket system, and related websites can be found on http://www.supremecourtus.gov/
  • U.S. Court of Appeals The U.S. Courts -- includes 11 circuits hearing appeals from U.S. district courts with exception of D.C. and Washington, D.C. -- of Appeals occupy the second tier in the hierarchy of federal courts. Rules, opinions and other information regarding the Seventh Circuit Court (covers Wisconsin, Illinois) is given on it's web site: http://www.ca7.uscourts.gov/
  • U.S. District Court is a trial court and court of original jurisdiction in the federal system. At least one District Court exists in each state. Many District Court opinions are unpublished and may be available through the clerk of court or an electronic legal database.
