Criminal Justice - Corrections
Associate Degree: 10-504-2
Campus: Fond du Lac
The Criminal Justice - Corrections program is an accredited two-year associate degree program that prepares students for positions in a variety of corrections careers ranging from least restrictive settings, such as group homes, to highly restrictive maximum-security prisons.
Students may begin correctional employment immediately upon graduation, continue on with their four-year degree, or work to get the combination of work and education required for specific positions such as probation and parole agent. Many current professionals enroll in the program to enhance career advancement opportunities.
Graduates are certifiable to work in any jail in Wisconsin as either a Correctional Officer and/or a Juvenile Detention Specialist. This certifiability is very attractive to county sheriff departments as it saves the counties time and money by providing persons who are ready to work. Many counties require the associate degree or 60 college credits. A graduate of Moraine Park’s program, once hired in these jail positions, can expect to earn $15 to $16 per hour.
The field of corrections needs people with high ethical standards, positive human values, supportive attitudes and effective listening and negotiating skills.
This program is a nontraditional occupation for women.
