Construction Electrician Apprenticeship (JATC)

Apprenticeship Program: 50-413-2

The construction electricians lay out, assemble and install wiring used in the construction area in accordance with the National Electrical Code and any local codes. Electricians must be able to plan the installations from blueprints and properly locate boxes and outlets with the use of pipe benders, pipe-threading machines, fish tapes and other tools of the trade. They also test continuity of circuits to ensure compatibility and safety of components, using instruments such as the ohmmeter, test equipment, oscilloscope and volt ohmmeter.

For safety, electricians must also be able to master the more than 800 detailed sections of the National Electrical Code designed to protect persons and property from hazards arising in the use of electricity. Electricians must be physically capable of performing the work of the trade. Applicants who reach employable status must successfully pass a drug-screening test before placement in the field.
