Youth Options

How does it work?

• If you are a public high school student entering your junior or senior year, are in good academic standing and have no record of disciplinary problems you may qualify to take college courses at Moraine Park.
• Your local high school districts pay the tuition for eligible courses.
• Your school board determines if a college course is acceptable for high school credit and that it is not comparable to any course offered by the school district.

How do I get started?

• Meet with your high school guidance counselor to determine if you are eligible for Youth Options and to begin the application process. The deadline for applying to your school district is March 1 for the fall semester or October 1 for the spring semester.
• Your school district determines which course(s) you are eligible to take and will notify you of the decision.
•  Approved courses can be taken any time during the regular academic year.
• Summer courses are not eligible.

Important Tips

• Students are responsible for some college fees, equipment and supplies, as well as transportation to and from Moraine Park.
• Some courses have prerequisites that must be met prior to enrolling. Check with the college to confirm.
• Youth Options students must understand that the expectation for college courses differs from high school and be prepared for the additional responsibilities.
• Work with your high school counselor and MPTC's Youth Options coordinator to verify prerequisites and appropriate courses; to complete the registration process; and to get details about the program requirements.
