FDL: Project 22
April 21, 2017 @ 5:00 pm
Moraine Park Technical College’s Counselors and Student Veterans Association, Marian University’s Student Veterans Organization, and Salute the Troops, Inc are partnering together to host 2 events to raise awareness of the veteran suicide epidemic and to honor those who have lost their lives too soon.
On Friday April 21, 2017 at 5:00 p.m. there will be a showing of the documentary, Project 22 on the Moraine Park Fond du Lac Campus (Rooms O-103 and O-104), with free pizza and beverages to all that attend. Project 22 is a non-profit documentary following two veterans on a 6,500 mile motorcycle ride across the country to raise awareness of the high number of veteran suicides that occur each day. Along the way they discover holistic methods of “post traumatic growth” and meet “inspirational warriors” who have overcome extreme difficulties in their post military lives.
The next day on Saturday April 22, 2017 Marian University will host a 2.2 mile ruck march/walk around their campus starting and ending at the Stayer Center parking lot located at 45 S. National Ave, Fond du Lac, WI. The event will be followed by lunch and optional tours of the Office of Veteran Services along with veteran resource providers.
Registration for both events can be done at https://www.eventbrite.com/e/veteran-suicide-awareness-movie-and-marchwalk-tickets-33093444383?utm-medium=discovery&utm-campaign=social&utm-content=attendeeshare&aff=escb&utm-source=cp&utm-term=listing. Otherwise onsite registration for the march/walk starts at 9:00 a.m. and the walk kicks off at 10:00 a.m. All who show up will receive a free water bottle or small sportpack while supplies last. Note: You do not have to have a rucksack to participate.
Both events are to help raise awareness and form a strong community around veteran suicide, and those that are participating in the march/walk are encouraged to carry a photo of a service member who has lost their life too soon. There is no charge for either event but donations are appreciated and will go to benefit Salute the Troops and the Student Veteran Organizations of MPTC and Marian University.
If you cannot attend and happen to be on the Fond du Lac campus, take a moment to see the rucksacks display on the ramp. The 21 rucksacks are representative of the 20-22 veterans that commit suicide each day.
